Rent to Own a Car in Abu Dhabi
Rent to own means you pay a starting amount, then one fixed monthly payment for a set term, and at the end the car is transferred to your name. DriveToOwn runs these plans from a showroom in Dubai, and many of our customers live and work in Abu Dhabi and drive over to sign.
What rent to own actually is
Rent to own is not a bank loan and it is not normal car rental. You pick a car from our stock. We buy that car. You pay from 10 percent of the car price at the start. That starting payment is what buys the car, so it is not a deposit and nothing is held back from it.
After that you pay one monthly amount for 24 or 36 months, depending on the car. There is no balloon payment and no final lump sum. The last monthly payment is the last payment, and then the car is transferred to you, as written in the contract.
During the term the car is registered to the owning company. That is normal for this kind of plan. The transfer at the end is written into the contract you sign.
Doing this from Abu Dhabi
Be clear on one point before you plan your day. Our showroom is in Dubai, at Midtown Central, Majan, Shop 28. We are open every day from 10am to 8pm. There is no Abu Dhabi branch, so you will drive or take a bus to Dubai to see the car and sign.
Your Emirates ID and your UAE driving licence work across the whole country, so living in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain or Al Reem does not change what we ask for. After signing you drive the car home and use it in Abu Dhabi like any other car.
Fines and Salik are paid by the driver. If you cross Dubai gates on your commute, that is your cost. Ask us on WhatsApp about anything related to tolls in Abu Dhabi before you sign, so there is no surprise later.
What you pay and what is inside it
Two numbers matter. The payment at the start, from 10 percent of the car price, and the monthly payment. There is no deposit and no hidden fee on top of those two.
On most plans, insurance and agreed servicing are inside the monthly payment. So the monthly figure is close to your real monthly cost of the car, with fuel, fines and Salik on top.
We do not print prices in articles because stock moves. The list of cars, the monthly payment for each one and whether it runs 24 or 36 months is on drivetoown.me. Check there for the current list and the current prices, then message us about the car you like.
Papers we need, and what we do not check
Three things:
- Emirates ID, or passport with a valid UAE visa
- A UAE driving licence
- A security cheque
There is no bank in the deal. We do not ask for a salary certificate and we do not run a credit bureau (AECB) check. That is why the plan suits people on a trade licence, people paid without a salary transfer, and people who arrived in the UAE recently.
We still review each case, and we do not promise approval to anyone before we have spoken. If something in your file does not work, we will tell you instead of letting you plan around it.
Rent to own, bank loan, or long term rental
If you have a stable salary, a salary transfer to the bank and a clean AECB record, a bank car loan is usually the cheaper way to buy a car. We will say that plainly. Rent to own is for the case where the bank is closed to you, or where you do not want to deal with it.
| Bank car loan | DriveToOwn rent to own | Long term rental | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salary certificate | Yes | No | Usually no |
| AECB credit check | Yes | No | No |
| Payment at the start | Down payment, usually 20 percent | From 10 percent of the car price | Deposit, refundable |
| Term | Often up to 60 months | 24 or 36 months | Monthly or yearly, renews |
| Insurance and servicing | You arrange and pay | Inside the monthly payment on most plans | Usually included |
| Who owns it at the end | You | You, after the last monthly payment | The rental company |
| Total cost | Lowest, if you qualify | Higher than a bank loan | You never own the car |
So the honest order is simple. Bank first if you qualify. Rent to own if you do not, and you want to end up owning the car. Rental if you only need a car for a short period.
Who this plan does not suit
You cannot use a car on a private rent to own plan for Uber or Careem. Ride-hailing work needs commercial plates through a limousine company, and these cars are on private plates. If driving for an app is your plan, this is not the product for you.
It also does not suit someone who wants a 60 month term to push the monthly figure down. Our terms are 24 or 36 months, so the monthly payment is higher than a long bank loan on the same car.
And if you are not sure you will stay in the UAE for the length of the term, speak to us about that before you sign, not after.
How to start
Open drivetoown.me and look at the current cars, their monthly payments and their terms. Pick the one you want. Message us on WhatsApp at +971585276277 with the car name and we will tell you the starting payment for that car and what happens next.
If you want to see and drive it, come to Midtown Central, Majan, Shop 28, Dubai, any day between 10am and 8pm. The cars on the site are our own stock, and you sign with Carborn Car Rental L.L.C, licensed in Dubai under trade licence 1144437.
